Saturday's 3A girls basketball championship game featured two teams with conflicting resumes.
On one hand, you had a Timberlake team that's been no stranger to competing for state titles. The Tigers had won championships in 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2021. But more recently, TImberlake missed out on state last year and only featured one player (Ciara Soumas) that was a part of that 2021 championship team.
On the other hand, you had Snake River: a program that had only won one state title in school history (2013), but had tons of senior experience and lots of veteran players ready to shine on the biggest stage.
In 2022, recent success trumped history, as the Panthers pulled away in the fourth quarter to win the 3A state championship by a 49-36 score. Snake River outscored Timberlake 15-6 in the fourth and decisive quarter.
IdahoSports Player of the Game Rylie Edlefsen authored a championship performance for the ages with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists. Taylee Carlson came off the bench to add 11 points and five rebounds, while Reese Baldwin grabbed eight boards as well.
A young Timberlake team was led by freshman Malia Miller's 15 points and eight rebounds.
