The 3A division is loaded with a lot of talent from the lightweight thru the heavyweight divisions and returns a total of 10 individual State Champions, 60 state placers, and 8 wrestlers with All-American honors on their wrestling resumes. The odds on favorite to repeat in the team race is South Fremont High School. They are loaded with talent from top to bottom and will be very difficult to beat this year.
Hunter Hobbs of South Fremont is the leader among the returning State Champions. Competing in the 182 weight division, Hobbs is a 3x State Champion and the favorite to win a rare fourth title. Signing a National Letter of Intent to compete for Providence University in Montana, Hobbs is also a National Folkstyle Champion. Four other wrestlers enter this tournament with two titles to their credit. They include Bowen Brunson (132 – Buhl), Grayson Williams (138 – American Falls), All-American Kayd Craig (152 – Gooding), and Kolter Burton of American Falls at 120s. In addition to his two state titles, Burton is a 2x Fargo National Champion, 7x All-American, and is committed to compete for Oklahoma State University. The remaining returning State Champions are each seeded in the top two in their respective weight groups. They include 2x All-American Boden Banta (106 – South Fremont), 2x finalist Ezra Clemens (132 – Fruitland), Riley Brunson (145 – Buhl), Jayce Bower (160 – Buhl), and Josh Curzon of Snake River at 285s.
Simply put, the team title is South Fremont’s to lose. Winning the team title in 2022, South Fremont returns to state with a large contingent of 24 qualifiers and 9 returning placers overall. Led by returning State Champions Boden Banta and Hunter Hobbs, the Cougars also have four other wrestlers in position to earn a fourth state medal. They include David Green (126), Ryker Simmons (132), Tuffy Briggs (138), and Dillon Gneiting at 160s. Additionally, the Clark brothers, Kolby (195 – All-American) and Max (220) are returning finalists, as well as All-American Jaxton Packer at 120s.
