BOYS BASKETBALL

GAME OF THE NIGHT

Kendrick 52, St. Maries 50

In a game that was streamed live on IdahoSports.com, the Class 2A Tigers emerged victorious over the Class 3A Lumberjacks after Ralli Roetcisoender scored as time expired. Tied at 50-50, Kendrick had possession with 30 seconds to play, but Roetcisoender dribbled the ball off of his foot, turning the ball over to St. Maries with 21 seconds remaining. With just ten seconds to play, Kendrick forced a turnover when Maddox Kirkland stripped St. Maries’ JJ Yearout. As the ball was going out of bounds on the St. Maries baseline, Kirkland lunged to stop it, and threw it back in. Kirkland’s wild pass was collected by Roetcisoender at midcourt, and the junior streaked the rest of the way to score as time expired. Both teams are now 5-4 on the season.

PRIME-TIME PERFORMER

We’ll stay in Class 2A’s Whitepine League, but head to Kamiah, where senior David Kludt is putting the finishing touches on what’s been an outstanding career. The College of Idaho commit finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds in the Kubs’ 66-34 win over Orofino. Kludt also crossed the 1,000 point barrier for his career in the process.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

GAME OF THE NIGHT

La Grande (OR) 44, Lewiston 43

The visiting Tigers didn’t take their first lead until 30 seconds remained in the third quarter, when La Grande went ahead 30-29. Throughout the fourth quarter, the two sides traded blows, and Lewiston led 41-38 with three minutes to play. Over the next minute, La Grande scored the next five points to surge ahead 43-41. The Bengals eventually tied the contest with successful free throws from Addy McKarcher on two separate trips to the foul line, leaving the score at 43-43 with 42 seconds left. La Grande turned the ball over on an errant pass with 35 seconds to play, but Lewiston did the same with 22 seconds remaining. La Grande’s Carlee Strand was fouled on a drive to the basket with 12 seconds to play, and converted one-of-two free throws to push the Tigers ahead 44-43. The Bengals had one final shot at a game-winning basket, but a jumper by Emery McKarcher came up short as time expired.
