BOYS BASKETBALL
GAME OF THE NIGHT
Preston 73, Century 69
In the conference opener for both teams, Century led 20-18 midway through the second quarter, but a 7-0 Preston spurt pushed the Indians ahead 25-18. Preston eventually led 40-26 in the third period, and although Century would fight back and continually trim the deficit down to a single possession, Preston was able to hold the Diamondbacks at arm’s length the rest of the way. Preston’s Reggie Larsen erupted for 36 points to lead all scorers in the game. Cruz Harris chipped in 14. Adrian Gonzalez led Century with 25 points, while Jordan Wilkinson added 13. Both teams can walk away feeling good about how they performed. Preston (14-1) is still considered to be the top team in 5A basketball, and the Indians earned a road win at Century’s vaunted Snake Pit. Century (9-4) had more than a puncher’s chance to win, which bodes well for a team that’s been flying under the radar this season.
PRIME-TIME PERFORMER
Hagerman senior Ky Kendall exploded for 35 points and tallied six steals in the Pirates’ 81-36 win over Sun Valley Community School. In just three years of varsity basketball, Kendall is now 15 points shy of 1,000 for his career. He’ll likely reach that mark in the Pirates’ next contest, a home game with Murtaugh on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
GAME OF THE NIGHT
North Fremont 55, Ririe 51 (OT)
In a battle of Nuclear Conference powers, North Fremont (3-1 Nuke, 7-6 overall) slipped past Ririe (3-1, 8-6) in overtime, handing the Bulldogs their first conference loss. Adding to the euphoric feeling for North Fremont is the fact that this win came on the road at Ririe’s home gym. The Huskies shot 36% from the floor in the victory, and came away with 13 steals on defense. The free throw line also proved important in this battle, as North Fremont shot 58% from the line, compared to just 38% for Ririe.
PRIME-TIME PERFORMER
Halle Wells poured in 19 points for the Bear Lake Bears in a 57-24 win over Snake River. Wells also anchored a defense that only allowed 10 total points in the second, third and fourth quarters of play.
