BOYS BASKETBALL

GAME OF THE NIGHT

Ridgevue 63, Centennial 61

The Warhawks (2-1 Southern Idaho Conference, 9-4 overall) earned a dramatic win over third-ranked Centennial (2-1 SIC, 9-3 overall) with a game-winning put-back with just 31 seconds to play.  The possession started with an initial miss, followed by a rebound and missed put-back by Kaimana Nielson, followed by a rebound and missed put-back by Tucker Tiddens, followed by a second rebound by Tiddens and finally, a successful put-back.  After four cracks at the basket, Ridgevue finally broke ahead, but Centennial had two more chances at the win themselves.  Gabe Eddins missed a three-point shot on the first possession.  After Ridgevue committed a double-dribble violation, the Patriots got the ball back and Eddins missed a second look from beyond the arc, sealing the win for the Warhawks.  Javonte Boles scored 19 points to lead Ridgevue in scoring, while Tiddens added 17.  Eddins led all scorers with 27 for the Patriots.

PRIME-TIME PERFORMER

In a battle of Class 3A’s top two teams in terms of rankings, the Declo Hornets defeated the West Side Pirates 48-31 to remain undefeated on the season.  Declo’s Emmett Gibby finished with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Gibby also added one block and one steal.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

GAME OF THE NIGHT

Skyline 51, Bonneville 49

This game was tight throughout, as Skyline led 16-13 after one quarter, 27-25 at halftime, and 40-39 at the end of the third period.  In the fourth, the contest was tied at 47-47 with two minutes to play.  That’s when Macy Marlow hit a three to put the Grizz ahead 50-47.  Bonneville answered with 50 seconds remaining, as Berkley Pope scored inside and was fouled, putting the Bees within one at 50-49.  Her free throw was short, though, and Skyline rebounded.  But with just 29 seconds to go, Skyline turned the ball over on an errant pass, giving Bonneville new life.  A jumper by Pope fell short, and Skyline again rebounded with 13 seconds left.  Shay Shippen sank one-of-two free throws to push the Grizz ahead 51-49, and with four seconds to play, Kaisley Trane hoisted a three, which missed.  Kaitlyn Nelson grabbed the offensive rebound, but her put-back missed as time expired.  Bonneville fans thought a foul should have been called, while Skyline fans thought the right decision was made by the referee.  In one final oddity, the ball actually got stuck on the top of the backboard after Nelson’s final attempt, and had to be removed after the game with a long pole.  Skyline is now 7-0 in High Country Conference play and 12-6 overall.  Bonneville is 1-7 and 6-11.

PRIME-TIME PERFORMER

Prairie (8-0 Whitepine League, 11-1 overall) turned back Lapwai (7-1 WPL, 11-2 overall) in a battle of undefeated Whitepine teams by a score of 55-49.  The Pirates had two separate players register double-doubles, so we’ll take the easy route and name both of them here.  Sage Elven finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Kylie Schumacher tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds.
