BOYS BASKETBALL
GAME OF THE NIGHT
Shoshone 55, Richfield 54
The Indians (3-9) trailed 26-15 at halftime and 38-34 entering the fourth quarter, but Shoshone hung tough, eventually winner on a buzzer-beater. Fast forward to the final minute: Trailing 51-49, Shoshone’s Bud Cortez stole a pass and took it the distance to tie the game at 51-51 with 43 seconds to play. Richfield (3-10) answered on a three from the wing by Garrett Huffman with 19 seconds to go. Now trailing 54-53, veteran Shoshone coach Garr Ward (who used to coach at Richfield) used his final timeout to draw up a play, but the Indians turned the ball over with 7.7 seconds to play, forcing Shoshone to foul. Richfield’s Iaan Lopez missed both free throws, Hadley Hunt rebounded for Shoshone, and a pass down-court was tipped out of bounds by Richfield with just 0.8 seconds remaining. With no timeouts remaining, Shoshone had to work quickly. From the sideline, Daniel Rocha inbounded to a wide-open Kevin Juarez, who quickly released a foul line jumper as time expired. The shot bounced on the rim several times before eventually dropping through, sending the Indians into a wild celebration.
PRIME-TIME PERFORMER
Bonners Ferry senior Asher Williams continues to pile up the points. In just the past two weeks, the Montana Tech commit has set a new school record with 45 points in a single game and bested that mark by dropping 50 a few nights later. On Monday’s 78-60 win over Logos in non-conference play, Williams only scored 37 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds, and tallied three steals and a block.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
GAME OF THE NIGHT
Prairie 57, Grangeville 56
Prairie (13-1) trailed 56-55 with just seven seconds to play. That’s when Prairie post Sage Elven rebounded a missed shot and was fouled on the put-back attempt. Elven sank both free throws, pushing the Pirates ahead 57-56. Grangeville (11-5) advanced the ball to half-court before calling timeout with 1.7 seconds to play. We’ll never know what type of play coach Michelle Barger drew up, though, because Prairie’s Lexi Schumacher stole the ensuing inbounds pass and ran out the clock to clinch the win.
PRIME-TIME PERFORMER
Lakeside continues to play well, standing at 4-0 in Scenic Idaho Conference play after a ten-point win over Genesis Prep. The 68-58 victory was fueled by point guard Kyleigh Wolfe’s 26 points. If Wolfe doesn’t win Conference MVP honors this year, it would be shocking.
