Welcome to Baney's Basketball Breakdown, a bite-sized recap of all of the important boys and girls basketball results from the previous night of competition.
Each morning, we'll quickly highlight the results, performances and scores that you need to know about.
BOYS BASKETBALL
GAME OF THE NIGHT
Ririe 54, North Fremont 52
Ririe (2-0 Nuclear Conference, 7-6 overall) hung on for dear life as North Fremont (1-2 Nuke, 5-9 overall) made a mad dash towards the finish line in a frantic comeback attempt. The Huskies trailed by twelve points, 47-35, with just over five minutes remaining. But Roy Wynn hit four free throws, Bryce Nedrow sank a pair of threes, and Nedrow and Brandon Anderson scored inside to trim the gap to 53-49 with just over a minute to play. That’s when Owen Reid knocked home a three for North Fremont, cutting the deficit to a single point at 53-52. But Ririe’s Owen Moss calmly sank one-of-two free throws, and North Fremont’s attempt at tying the game fell short, preserving the narrow victory for the Bulldogs.
PRIME-TIME PERFORMER
Hagerman senior Ky Kendall has been featured in this space before. Last week, the sharp-shooter crossed 1,000 points at Hagerman High, which is impressive considering he spent his freshman year at Wendell. So how do you top that? You set a new school record for most three-pointers in a single game. Kendall made nine trifectas on his way to a double-double of 34 points and 10 steals in the Pirates’ 74-34 win over Shoshone. The previous record-holder for most threes in a game? Ky Kendall, who made eight a season ago.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
GAME OF THE NIGHT
Salmon River 47, Council 44
Much like our boys’ game of the night, Salmon River (11-5) held on in a non-conference battle, holding off a late charge from Council (4-6). These two used to be 1A Long Pin Conference rivals, but the Council girls were kicked up a level to the 2A Western Idaho Conference this year. Regardless, Wednesday’s game was a thriller. Council held a tight 8-5 lead after one quarter of play, before Salmon River outscored the Lumberjacks 20-9 in the second to take a 25-17 lead at halftime. Trailing 37-30 entering the fourth quarter, Council outscored Salmon River 14-10, but their comeback bid was thwarted by Rylee Walters’ superb free-throw shooting. Walters finished 10-of-13 at the line, and scored 26 points in total.
PRIME-TIME PERFORMER
After suffering a two-point defeat to Shelley in December, the Blackfoot Broncos took revenge and then some in a 57-41 triumph. 6-foot-1 senior center Cambrie Waterhouse could not be stopped, finishing with 14 points on an extremely efficient 6-of-9 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds.
