Team Preview:

Seven players return for the Timberline Spartans this season.

Back are center Colby Lineberry, guard Durgan Jared, guard Trevon Willis, forward Troy Manz, guards Tristen Bonner and Chase Brouwers, and Jacob Mayberry.

"We have a lot of players returning," said John Bower, in his second season as Timberline coach. "Anytime you have that situation it can be exciting."

A key loss from last season is Jadan Dahl, who was a "great kid, good leader," Bower said. "He was tough and played through an injured foot all year."

On offense, Bower said he's looking for better ball movement and team play in general.

"We have a lot of good guards to complement Colby Lineberry (a 6-foot-1 junior) in the post," he said.

On defense, rebounding and communication are points of emphasis for improvement.

"We are quick as a team," Bower said. "Trevon Willis is as fast a kid as I have seen and he causes problems in the passing lanes. Colby Lineberry is a very good rebounder."

The "X-factor" for this season, he said, is team defense and rebounding.

Bower says he coaches high school basketball "because I like to help student-athletes in any way possible, and basketball is all I know."

He said he likes coaching at Timberline because "the community is generous and the students want to succeed."
