A rarity in high school sports occurred for the Troy last year, as the Trojans had no seniors on the roster and will look very similar to last season as a result.

One area that will be different is in the leadership on the sideline, where Bob Wilson takes over as the new head coach.

Seniors Reece Sanderson, Rhett Sandquist and Tommy Baier were mentioned by the coach as some of the key returners from a year ago.

The returners experienced some bumps in the road during a 1-8 campaign last season, with the defense hoping to see major improvement after allowing 50 or more points in all but two games in 2018.

Wilson says that tackling and blocking have been emphasis areas for the defensive side of the ball and up-front play has been a focus on offense.

There are multiple reasons for optimism as the Trojans get set for a new season.

“I’m most excited about our senior leadership, dedication and young kids learning,” said Wilson.

For the first offseason with the new coach, there have been some items that have been on the agenda.

“We need to stay healthy and get faster and stronger,” added Wilson.

Sanderson is one of the players who has continued to get stronger over his high school career, something that is pivotal against some of the bigger competition in the White Pine League.

Sandquist will continue to lead the offense from the quarterback position, with Baier leading the defense from the nose guard spot.

Troy starts the new era of Trojans football on August 30 on the road at Kootenai.
