There is a buzz surrounding the Kellogg football program, and some fans think that 2022 could be the year that the Wildcats claim their first state title in school history.

There are two main reasons why fans are so bullish on the Wildcats' chances in 2022.

The first is the fact that twin brothers Riply and Kolby Luna are back. Riply, the quarterback, threw for 2,597 yards, 37 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions a year ago. Kolby, the wide receiver, snagged 55 balls for 1,082 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The second reason Kellogg fans are feeling good this season: the Wildcats went 6-3 a year ago, nearly won the 3A Intermountain League, and fell in a wild playoff game against South Fremont 35-30.

Now, the Wildcats have been bumped down to the 2A classification. Playing at a lower level isn't a guarantee of future success, but Kellogg went 4-0 last year against the other four members of their new home, the Central Idaho League.

The Wildcats defeated St. Maries, Orofino, Grangeville and Priest River by a combined score of 146-40.

Before you start thinking that Kellogg features the Luna boys and that's it, check out the list of all-conference performers that will be joining them on the field this year: Jayce Garcia (WR/LB), Varick Meredith (TE/LB), Gabe Jenicek (OL) and Daeton Bauer (DL). Kolby Luna was also an all-conference DB in 2021.

The one area with the most inexperience is the offensive line. If a new group of blockers up front can give Riply Luna enough time to throw, Kellogg could be downright unstoppable in 2022.
